As well as selling donated items via our shops we can also generate vital income for Shalom House through recycling.

Any donated items that cannot be sold within our shops will be recycled wherever possible. If you are having a clear out and would like to donate your unwanted items to Shalom House take a look at our Recycling and Donations guide below for a list of what we can and cannot accept.

All funds raised from the sale or recycling of goods will be used to help fund palliative care for people in the local area

What Can Shalom House Accept

We can reuse and recycle many things, whether it’s in our shops, or through recycling. The list below includes many of the items that we can reuse or recycle to raise vital funds for Shalom House.

What Can Shalom House reuse or recycle (Link to)

  • Quality Clean Clothing, paired shoes, underwear, handbags and belts.
  • Any make, model, age and condition of mobile phone.
  • Any CD’s, DVD’s, computer games, vinyl records.
  • Used postage stamps and postcards.
  • Curtains, towels, tea towels, bedding
  • We also accept crockery, glassware, cutlery, ornaments, pictures, books, toys, puzzles and more.

What we can’t reuse or recycle

There are items that we cannot accept, which is mainly due to Health and Safety, Trading Standards legislations and lack of storage space. Also items that are clearly unsellable and that can’t be locally recycled will cost the charity money to dispose of.

These items are:

Electrical Items
Children’s car seats, prams and buggies
Furniture
Gas cookers
Greetings cards
Cycle, riding or crash helmets
Buoyancy aids
Any safety equipment
Oil filled items – such as lamps or radiators
Prescription medication
Hazardous waste – paints, solvents, adhesives or cleaning agents
Toys without a CE mark
Soft furnishings without fire regulations
VHS / Video cassettes
Pianos / electric organs
Greenhouses
Flammable liquids
Asbestos
Soil / hardcore
Gas bottles

Shalom House reserves the right to refuse any donation that is on the above list, or is deemed by us as unsellable.
