Bereavement Counsellor

To start in January 2022

Shalom House is a charity based in St Davids, Pembrokeshire for individuals with life limiting conditions. The service we offer includes a day centre based in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, a hospice at home service based within the community established during the pandemic and we are trialling a short-term respite service in 2022.

Our team consists of Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Registered Manager and Business Manager and our Administrator, all who are overseen by the charity’s Board of Trustees. We work together to provide an inclusive service both at the day centre and within the community. Our aim is to provide a flexible holistic service based around each person’s own needs, such as complementary therapies, advocacy, bereavement counselling, carer support, peer to peer support and nursing support.

Complementary to these services we have been fortunate enough to receive funding to secure the services of an additional Bereavement Counsellor for the minimum of a year from January 2022.

At this time the counselling support is provided online or over telephone depending on preference, but we would be hopeful that in the future some on site in person sessions could be supported. The service is open to all attendees of Shalom House, including their carers and families, in addition the service can be accessed by any individual within Pembrokeshire. We have supported NHS staff, local hospitality companies along with employees. Referrals are accepted from medical professionals or directly from the individual.

This unique service allows us to support people faster than traditional counselling services which are under great demand, especially at this difficult time. We aim to make initial contact within 3 working days and to start support within 2 weeks. Due to demand this is currently delayed, hence the clear need for an additional Bereavement Counsellor to support these individuals in a timely manner.

Bereavement Counsellor Requirements

  • Foundation Degree in Counselling
  • Must be a member of an accredited governing body such as British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • Evidence of monthly supervision
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • To be a member with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO)
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and record keeping skills

Desirable

  • Previous work with bereavement support.
